A QUICK MINI FOR WALLET PICTURES

Hello my Friends! I love to use wallet-size pictures whether it's for pages or minis they're the perfect size. I was thinking about a way to my favorite moments of the Advent with my Grandmother in France and then I thought why not bind them all together and slide them into a sturdy cover. And while at it why not share a step-by-step with you?!

MINI ( closed ): 3 x 4 inches. All papers from Making Memories'Noel

TUTORIAL:

1. To make the cover, cut 3 pieces of heavy cardboard and glue on top of your cardstock.

2. This is what the cover will look like:

3. Adhere 2 pieces of ribbon like so:

4. Adhere the lining which is slightly smaller than the cover:

5. Make pockets by adhering 2 pieces of cardstock on each side:

6. Gather your wallet pictures and two papers for the cover.

7. It'll look like that:

8. You can now slide the front cover of the mini into the "front "pocket and the back cover into the "back" pocket.

This mini could be a good way to gather your memories of the Holidays!

This month's guest designer has a special tie to APIT and it's been fun getting to know her. She is the sister of design team member, Victoria! How fun it must be to have a sister to scrapbook with!

Welcome Nancy Olsen!

Here are Nancy's answers to the APIT guest DT questions:

How would you describe your scrapping style?
Simple. I usually use cardstock, photos and a few embellishments, with a little bit of journaling. I’m not a big writer, so I usually just put the facts. I do a lot of double page LOs and rarely make a page with just one photo on it.

What scrap celebrity would you like to meet and why?
Becky Higgins. I had a picture taken with her at CKU in 2005, but I’d love to have a conversation with her. I’ve liked her style, right from when I started scrapbooking.

Where do you find your inspiration?
I used to buy a lot of magazines and idea books, but found I wasn’t reading them or finding much new in them anymore, so now I find most of my inspiration online on blogs and in scrapbooking galleries. I find my sister to be a big inspiration as well.

Describe your creative process.
I usually pick photos first and then pick papers and embellishments to match. I like using coordinating lines from the same manufacturer. I’m also fairy quick, I don’t spend more than 30 minutes on one LO.

Besides scrapping, what other crafts/hobbies do you enjoy?
I like photography, which goes well with the scrapbooking. And I’ve tried a lot of different crafty hobbies, like knitting and jewellery making.

What is the craziest item you have ever added to a page?
Probably a little bottle of sand from Mexico. And 9-10 years ago, I used to make a LO in my vacation albums where I’d put a ton of brochures, it was always super bulky!

Who are your favorite manufacturers?
Making Memories, My Mind’s Eye and Little Yellow Bicycle

Describe your scrapping space.
I live in a 1 bedroom condo, so it’s small. I keep all my scrapbooking supplies in the bedroom in a cupboard and cube storage, as well as in the walk in closet. And then I scrap on the kitchen table. I’ve love to have a room someday where I can keep everything and scrap in as well!

What would we be surprised to know about you?
I collect hippopotamuses. I have hundreds of them, I’ve been collecting them since I was 3.

Use Your Scraps - December 2010

If you know me then you know that I do not believe in scraps. Well, I don't believe in collecting scraps. What? You ask. Well, when I create a layout, I always create a card immediately. Yep...always. I have cards for every occasion and can grab a card for any event at moments notice. Yay! I use my scraps right away! Sometimes, I create 2 cards. And lately, I've been creating a card and an ATC: Artistic Trading Card. ATC's are little works of heart that crafters trade, use a business/calling cards, use to decorate pages or simply to create a collection to commemorate an achievement!

This year I reached my goal of losing 120lbs. One of the gifts to myself or creations I want to make to remind me of this FANTASTIC goal is to create a board which features 120 ATC's, one for each pound I lost. I have gathered some from friends and the rest, I am slowly but surely creating with my scraps. As I create each layout, I add a card and an ATC to my collection. Here are a few I created using the December APIT Kit using the My Mind's Eye and Little Yellow Bicycle Collections.

My layouts and cards can be viewed on the APIT site. However, here are my two ATC's.

Next, time you sit down to create, instead of filing your scraps away for some distant, never seen date in the future. Create a card for someone you love and an ATC to share!

Tell us a little about yourself.
Hi everyone! My name is Krystle and I live in Albuquerque, NM with my wonderful husband of 7 years. I first picked up scrapbooking way back in 1997 and it has been so fun to see both my personal style and this industry grow over the past 13 years. For me, scrapbooking is a relaxing creative release and a beautiful way to preserve memories. I love everything about this craft, especially sharing inspiration and connecting with other scrappers.

How would you describe your scrapping style?
This is a hard question for me to answer, but I think my layouts tend to have an elegance to them.

What scrap celebrity would you like to meet and why?
Teresa Collins -- she seems really great!

Where do you find your inspiration?
Mostly from other scrappers. I love online communities!

Describe your creative process.
I typically begin with a bunch of pictures that I want to use and then I go to a sketch, or challenge, or an idea that I want to incorporate and finally I pull in the scrapbooking supplies that would best help me create my vision.

Besides scrapping, what other crafts/hobbies do you enjoy?
Scrapping is my only real hobby so if I am relaxing and not scrapping you will likely find me on the couch watching TV!

What is the craziest item you have ever added to a page?
My hospital bracelet from a fall I had.

Who are your favorite manufacturers?
Basic Grey, Prima, and Pink Paislee.

Describe your scrapping space.
I have a desk in our office that is devoted to all of my supplies. I either scrap there or at the dining room table.

What would we be surprised to know about you?
I have a day job (I am an attorney).

Hello Friends, alexandra here. Thank you APIT for always choosing the perfect kits! I mean it. I came back from a short week in the city of lights. Filled with happiness and nostalgia, I saw this collection from M.M as a wonderful way to prolong my adventure in Paris.

Here are the lay-outs I've made so far. I used two things to emphasize that dream-like state: iPhone photos and Tsukineko walnut inks:

Use Your Scraps, November

Hi everyone! I used two kits this month - the Making Memories kit and the Scrap Within Reach kit. I used almost every bit of my MM kit to make my two page layout and card featured on the DT page so I didn't have any scraps left to use with that kit. But, the SWR kit had so many papers that it was easy to come up with a layout and card to share with you. In fact, I probably could've made a couple more cards if I wanted to - it was such an easy kit to use - so many great colors and patterns. Perfect for Fall, perfect for boys!

Here's what I did with my scraps. I added a single piece of Kraft cardstock and some alphabet Thickers for the title, but other than that, everything else is from the kit!

And for this card I used Lucy's card sketch as inspiration:

There's so much you can do with your scraps from the kits each month. If you have any ideas to share, please feel free to - we'd love to see your creations!

A layout to share

Hi everyone - I'm back to share with you a layout I put together last night using the first double page sketch that was posted yesterday. I used the APIT November Scrap Within Reach kit and only added some lettering and a few brads. Everything else is from the kit. It was such a fun kit to work with and I thought it was perfect for a few pictures of a family visit to the Art Institute of Chicago about six years ago.

Tell us a little about yourself.
I'm a 34 year old Mom of one. My husband, son and I live in a small mountain town in Eastern BC. We love to travel and go off-roading with our 4 door Jeep as a family.

How would you describe your scrapping style?
I'm all over the place with my style. Sometimes I'm a clean scrapper and then my next creation maybe shabby chic! I just go with the flow and create as I see fit.

What scrap celebrity would you like to meet and why?
Hmmm… I guess that would have to be Jana Eubank. She’s a Utah girl and I’d love to meet Jana in person some day. There is just something about her layouts that I’m drawn to!

Where do you find your inspiration?
I take inspiration from all kinds of things; other scrappers, magazines, ads in the paper, billboards, photography, blogs and sketches!

Describe your creative process.
I tend to start with my photos first. I take the theme of my photos and develop a layout that conveys the theme. Journaling is always my last thought. I do not have a way with words and I struggle with this aspect of my layouts.

Besides scrapping, what other crafts/hobbies do you enjoy?
I make cards… that’s about it. I don’t have time nor the cash for another hobby! LOL!

What is the craziest item you have ever added to a page?
Hmmm… that would have to be a lock of my son’s hair. But I don’t know if that's crazy.

Who are your favorite manufacturers?
I’d have to say BasicGrey, Crate Paper and My Mind’s Eye. But I love just about all paper!

Describe your scrapping space.
I have a desk that I create on. I have another desk that I have my computer, printer and Klic N’Kut die cutting machine on. I also have an armoire filled with paper, stamps and cardstock. Everything is located in my living room… yup… my living room!

What would we be surprised to know about you?
I trained as a chef for 4 years and worked in the long term care system in Ontario for 7 years as a Food Service Supervisor before moving to BC.

Halloween Banner

Hello there! This is alexandra to share with you another project made with scraps: a Halloween Banner!

I used a Quickutz' die but one could cut large triangles from black cardstock and smaller ones in your scraps.
The letter are cut from a foam sheet ( Michael's ) using Quickutz' alpha Chemistry.

October – Off the Page Challenge

Hi folks! It’s mid October and time for a new challenge. This month AND the coming months the shops will be filled with BEAUTIFUL themed papers, Halloween and Christmas. I loooove themed papers and all the fun embellies to go. BUT I also have problems with a limited supply of photos with the “right” theme, which means I need to something else with them.

So, while last months challenge was to make a holiday themed page, this month’s challenge is to use themed papers but make a layout about something ELSE!

Here is my take, using the Ohhhhh So Fab MME Blackbird papers and chipboard.

It’s my son during a train robbery on a Western amusement park. Loooove the little cowboy chippie!!!

October Inspiration Station - Tricks and Treats

It's that time of year again..time for a fun trick and a little treat!

I purchased a watch several years ago and it came in this very cute tin. I held onto it, knowing that one day I'd want to cover it for a project. This was the perfect project.

I covered the tin with the cute papers and chipboard die cut stickers from My Mind's Eye. It was easy to decorate and I added candy for a fun treat for a special little someone

Use Your Scraps - October!

Hello everyone! I'm here to share this month's version of APIT's "Use Your Scraps"!

I decided to use the gorgeous Fancy Pants kit from this month to create a few fun projects
First of all, I used a mini album to create a bannner. If you're like me, you have a collection of unused minis that will never actually be turned into mini albums. What's a girl to do with all this extra chipboard? Make a chic banner of course! I covered the sides of the album with patterned paper and cut some letters out with my Cricut. In less than an hour I had this cute birthday themed banner to hang. I love it!

I still had tons of scraps leftover - and a friends with a bday this week. I got her a gift card for a gift, so I made this cute little holder as a wrapping bag.

Both projects were quick and easy to make! So grab your scraps and let the inspiration flow!

Here's a little more about Jing:

… adventurous … creative … love to explore the world … enjoy savoring gourmet
food … fancy going for a massage, manicure and pedicure … not much of a
shopping freak but love clothes, bags and shoes (typical!) … married to a
wonderful man for 12 years … a certified “professional” housefrau and loving
every minute of it … love to have ladies for an afternoon tea or coffee – love to
bake & of course, cooking is my passion … used to work in the hotel industry and
left the chaotic corporate world when I got married … I am serious with my yoga
and pilates … I am an early riser – say, 5:30 am and zoom, getting ready to make
breakfast … - I have several things to say about myself but I can say that I am just
SIMPLY JING!

{How would you describe your scrapping style}

I enjoy exploring the beauty of the papers and embellishments. I love simple and
straightforward approach. At the beginning, I just concentrated on neat and
simple. Vintage and rustic effect is not my first love but I tried using such
techniques with some of my work and I truly enjoyed it.

{What scrap celebrity would you like to meet and why}

I love to meet all the scrap celebrity. I had an opportunity to meet some of them
during the CHA conventions and I found it quite interesting to have a chat over a
cup of coffee.

{Where do you find your inspiration}

My first source of inspiration is my dear husband … ladies, I am not being cliché or
romantic but it is true. The Color of Wheel is giving my creativity lots of energy to
create and visualize.

{Describe your creative process}

I love papers (and I buy a lot-smile!) and I play around with it – then I start looking
for appropriate photos. But sometimes, I use photos to inspire me then look for
papers. I seldom use embellishments from the manufacturers – I create and make
them myself.
I just started again doing my personal scrapbooking and copic marker coloring. I
have been busy with retail store projects and it is totally different process in
creating things. I loved and enjoyed it but I felt the need to do something for
myself this time.

{Besides scrapping, what other crafts/hobbies do you enjoy?}

… cooking … baking … yoga and pilates … rollerblading – believe it or not, love the
speed … hosting dinners, lunches and afternoon tea with ladies … snoozing in the
afternoon … and many more that keeps me busy

{What is the craziest item you have ever added to a page?}

This was for me the OMG – I had to use a real Swarovski beads for an important
project for a VIP client. The project was great and exclusive only for that client yet
expensive. Client was happy – I was also happy and tired (mega work).

{Who are your favorite manufacturers?}

At the beginning I was not looking at the name of the manufacturers – just the
papers and quality. But I started look for papers that carries retro, vintage,
classic, fun designs. At the moment, I enjoy American Crafts, My Mind’s Eye, Echo
Park Paper, Crate, Webster Page, Pink Paislee, Cosmo Cricket and I can just go on
with my list. SERVICE is one of the things that is very important for me in
purchasing papers from the manufacturers aside from the quality.

{Describe your scrapping space}

My creative is space is painted yellow and decorated with butterflies. I love
butterflies … The creative venue is always organize and neat except for the photo
below – this was the “after” effect project.

{What would we be surprised to know about you?}

Let’s have coffee one day, somewhere and tell me … surprise me with your
opinion.

September "Off the Page" Challenge

Hi everyone! I'm bringing you this month's "Off the Page" monthly challenge. I am a HUGE fan of sketches. I am a long-tme fan of Becky Fleck's sketch site, Pagemaps and own her first book and have her second one on pre-order!

I choose to use one of her September sketches to present in a challenge to you today.

Here's the catch though.... I want you to do a holiday themed layout with this sketch. Any holiday will do.

Here's my take on the challenge. I used the December 09 APIT Creative Imaginations kit and scrapbooked a few photos from my kids holiday concert:

ALTER AN ALTOID MINT BOX INTO A GIFTBOX

Hello there! Alexandra here to show you a fun and easy project you can make in minutes: An altered Altoid Mint box turned into a unique gift box!

I used this month kit from The Crate paper:

1. With the box closed, draw the outine of the box onto your piece of cardstock and cut:

2. File the edges to give it a bit of a distressed look:

3. Choose a tag and adhere to the paper. I added a rub-on to add more visual interest:

4. Next, add a 3-D embellishement such as a felt flower with a button or brad in its center:

5. You can cover the inside of the box:

Sketch Mania Time!

Happy September everyone! I am here to bring you the the fabulous sketches that Lucy has created for us this month:

I love sketches that incorporate circles so choosing just one of Lucy's sketches to use with my Crate kit was easy! Here's my take on it:

I used one large circle instead of two and since I couldn't narrow down my pictures, I chose to do just one block of journaling leaving me with room for 5 photos. The pics were of my daughter's 5K a few weeks ago. I loved the shaped patterned paper but when was having difficulty working the print into my layout so I cheated and used the back which was white (for the shaped border strips, title and journaling block).

Member Spotlight - Bev Code!

Good morning everyone! I always really enjoy getting to know our members of the month each month... it's fun working with them and seeing their work and reading a little more about them. This month is no exception. Bev was wonderful to work with and a pleasure to get to know.... so please help me welcome....

Here are the questions and answers Bev gave to the APIT Spotlight questions:

Tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Bev Code and I have been scrapping about 3 years. I am a wife, mother of 2 and gramma of 4 grandkids. I love being retired and now have time to scrap to my heart's content. I live in Conestogo, Ontario, visit my mom's cottage in the summer and spend some time in Florida during the winter. I love time spent with family and friends... most of whom are subjects of my projects. My favourite layouts are double pages and I love making cards...but will attempt anything in a challenge. It is a pleasure to be this months Guest Designer. It was amazing to work with the Bo Bunny, Mama Razzi kit. By adding a black and a light blue cardstock I managed to make 2 double page layouts for my husbands retirement party album and a Birthday card. This was a great opportunity to share with you and hopefully inspire you.

How would you describe your scrapping style?
I think I have alot of different styles... perhaps this results from doing many different challenges. Some of which require a plainer simple line, some that are fussy with special hand cuts and lots of clusters of flower both bought and handmade, some that are rustic with distressing, inking, embossing and paint, and some requiring many layers and many different shapes. I don't have any favourite and just enjoy a challenge.

What scrap celebrity would you like to meet and why?
If I am honest with you... I don't need to meet anyone that is a celebrity. I am totally happy meeting everyday people who love to share and inspire with their own special techniques and styles. Everyone brings so much to the scrapping world whether it's colour, style, techniques or some new flower to share.

Where do you find your inspiration?
Most of my inspiration is from sketches, challenges and online friends in the galleries and forums I frequent.

Describe your creative process.
I don't have a consistant creative process. It depends on if I start with photos and find paper and embellishments, have paper and look for photos and embellishments or sometimes I have embellishments I can't wait to use .. so I look for paper and photos to complete the process.

Besides scrapping, what other crafts/hobbies do you enjoy?
I love taking photos of just about anything? Any thing that catches my eye.
Needlepoint is something I like to have on the go at all times ready to pick up when and where ever I am.

What is the craziest item you have ever added to a page?
So far I haven't used anything I would call crazy.

Who are your favorite manufacturers?
There are so many fabulous one out there today. I however have only perchased American Crafts, BoBunny and Basic Grey in any quantity.

Describe your scrapping space.
My scrapping space is a separate room in the basement which previously was my business section of the house. Since retiring I have converted it to MY scrapping space. It is normally MESSY with some project in progress and I can close the door behind.

What would we be surprised to know about you?
Not too many people know I not only followed my 2 boys in Hockey but crossed over and have coaching levels, trainers papers and can go on the young men's bench fully certified. I did it for about 15 years.
I felt this kept me closer to them as they grew up.. we had something in common. Even today we are close and their hockey friends are still in our lives.

TGIF Challenge: Buttons & Borders

It has been an awesome week of APIT Birthday Activities--Challenges, Games and Sales...what more could we ask for?!? My challenge is all about the little things. Those last finishing touches. The things that can save the day when you feel your layout is "missing something"-- Buttons & Borders.

I want you to use at least 3 buttons and at least 3 borders on your layout. Feel free to get creative! Your borders can be punched, torn, distressed, ribbons, paper ribbons, pre-cut borders, stickers, die cuts, etc.

Here is my example using the Green at Heart kit from July 2010. I added buttons to the tree and used a hand-cut scallop border, a punched border, and a paper-ribbon border. I can't wait to see what you do!!!

FRIDAY'S BIRTHDAY CHALLENGE

Welcome! Today's challenge is :

ATCs ( artist trading cards )

They measure 2.5 x 3.5 ( a great way to use your scraps ) and if you stamp a sentiment or write a quote that you like on them, they make a sweet addition to a gift.

Here's what to do!

Hi folks! Time flies!!! It’s Thursday already and it’s time for a product challenge! I love to stamp on both cards and layouts, hence the challenge is to incorporate

STAMPING

in your project. That’s it! Here is my sample page with lots of stamping – I’ve used 9 stamps!!! But for you – one is enough!

The APiT kit I used on this layout is June 2010 – Pink Paislee papers. I added some of my favorite stamps and letters. The stamping part is to enhance the theme: My favorite day and moment of the week. That would be Sunday mornings – on my Sunday mornings I usually STAMP… LOL! See my Distress inks and newest stamps in the background??? :):):)

Have a Drink with Fancy Pants - Rusted Sun! (Inspiration Station)

I simply love this tumbler. It's alterable and plenty of fun. I enjoy changing it up for the seasons and with it's easy twist off bottom and template for creating the paper insert, I can have a new cup in a snap!

APIT provides so many wonderful patterned papers each month. Therefore, the creative possibilities are endless!

For this cup I used the Rusted Sun Strips Patterned Paper and the Rusted Sun rub ons included in this month's kit.

Here is my simple but very cute tumbler.

Ahhhh...now it's time to sit back, relax and enjoy a sip!

Use Your Scraps, August

Hi there everyone! I'm bringing you this months issue of "Use Your Scraps!"

This month for my design team assignment I used the Little Yellow Bicycle Travel kit. For my main two-page layout and card I really did use most of the paper! In fact I was a little nervous that I'd have enough to do much with for this section! But, I did have scraps though so I just grabbed some of my most favorite cardstock in the world - kraft - and was able to come up with a one page layout and some cards. You'll notice that I had to use that cardstock as a base for each of my projects, but the whole feel of the projects are from the papers in the kit.

First, here's the layout I did. I gathered my strips of extras and layered them on my kraft cardstock and just added some Thickers and letter stickers.

Once I finished the layout I didn't have but a just a few squares of scraps left. I really wasn't sure what to do, but then decided to pull out my punches and just made these two simple cards. I again used my kraft cardstock and also added some bakers twine, a few brads and some hero arts stamps. I actually really like how they turned out! What do you think?

Once these cards were finished, I didn't feel bad at all tossing my teeny-tiny amount of scraps in the trash! In the end I got one two-page layout, one one-page layout, and three cards from this kit!

MINI BOOK TUTORIAL WITH BOOBUNNY

Hello, alexandra here! This month, APIT provided me with the BoBunny's A Gift Of Love collection and I thought it'd be fun to turn it into an envelope mini book and share the tutorial with you. These reversible papers are gorgeous and could accomodate every style/theme. The sheet of 3-D stickers that come with the kit are perfect to decorate a mini and a few other projects!

TUTORIAL:

1. Use an long envelope of your liking as a template and trace onto you cardstock:

2. Cut each envelope:

3. Ink the extremeties to add depth and a nice finish:

4. Score envelopes with a bone folder:

5. Once the envelopes have been assembled take your embellies and make the cover:

6. Punch holes ( 1" from the edge on both sides ) and bind with two metal rings:

6. Once your structure is finished, you can add inside pages for each envelope. I plan on having pictures on the envelopes and the journaling inside on kraft paper.

7. Here is what the spine of the mini envelope book looks like, the dark border makes all the elements of the cover stand out, it also gives it an "old-book".

8. Don't forget to incorporate fun ephemera or trinkets on your cover. Here for instance, I used the star that came with a pair of Converse shoes!

=> 7 1/4 x 4 1/2 inches - 18 x 11 cm

I used the second one form my page. I loved the many photos that was perfect for the theme I had in mind – a collage from the photo session at my cousin’s wedding, using the AMAZING Bo Bunny papers included in the August kit.

"All Aboard!" with Max & Whiskers (Inspiration Station)

I have had this chipboard album in my scrapbook room for a long time now (along with about 20-30 others!), just hanging out in a basket waiting for the perfect opportunity. When my APIT kit arrived for July and I saw this PERFECT Max & Whiskers kit, I knew it was time to dust off the package and actually *gasp* decorate my train album. Caeden, who will be 3 next month, loves trains and this makes a perfect decoration for the top of his dresser.

And, while I'm at it, I will share that I just LOVED this kit so much, and guess what? I don't even have a dog! lol. I made:

-A 2-page layout--fall themed
-A single page layout--boy themed
-A "puppy love" card
-A "miss you" card using the "dog gone" title in the kit.

So, even if you don't have animals, the colors in this kit are great for a variety of uses :) As always, feel free to share your own creations! We would love to see them, either linked here or over at the APIT gallery.

Meet Tesa Broman!

Here's the APIT questions and the answers Tesa shared with us:

Tell us a little about yourself
Hi! I am Tesa and I live in a small town in Sweden with my lovely family of three. It's me and hubby - we've been married ten years this summer- and our son who is nine. I work as a teacher and researcher in Economic History and I'm fortunate to have have a family I love, a fulfilling work and the best hobby there is! I've been scrapbooking for three years by now and I love it more every day... It's crazy but true! Being part of the A Page in Time Design Team is great, I've loved every single moment on this Team!

How would you describe your scrapping style?
This one is difficult, but I think one could say it is a clean shabby chick kind of look. Not too many decorations, and often clean lines, but love some distressing, lace and flowers...

What scrap celebrity would you like to meet and why?
I have two major favorite celebrities that i would die to meet. First up is Cathy Zielske because she is one talented lady and FUNNY! I love reading her blog, and all the fun and wise things she writes. I think she is a very nice and witty person to be around. And then there is amazing Jennifer McGuire. Oh, the amazing creativity... And she seems to be the most nice and caring person there is.

Where do you find your inspiration?
I use the blogs A LOT! There are so many fantastic scrapbookers out there and the variety is endless. And my blogging friends inspire me every day. But what really kick starts my inspiration is a good old challenge. A lift, ad or sketch or anything else!

Describe your creative process.
My starting point varies a lot. If I have new papers I look for a challenge and photos to match them, and if i have new photos I start the other way around, matching the photos with papers. After that first choice is done I start my "moving around the papers and photos". This part used to take me forever, but lately I'm doing it a lot quicker, guess I finally learn to trust my feelings... When I'm pleased I decorate. Done.

Besides scrapping, what other crafts/hobbies do you enjoy?
I love reading and do that a lot in periods. Other than that, I don't have time for much else of hobbies, I work full time and have a family so I've got my hands full.

What is the craziest item you have ever added to a page?
I'm not the crazy item type of scrapbooker. I haven't added anything that might be considered strange. I think. I suppose I should do something to change that soon!

Who are your favorite manufacturers?
Basic Grey. Love Basic Grey. But there are a lot of other fine manufacturers. Like GCD studios, Pink Paislee, Bo Bunny... I could go on...

Describe your scrapping space.
It's a combined scraproom and guest room in the basement (but with a large window). It's a mess except when we have guests. My son constantly shakes his head and says "Mom, you REALLY have to clean this mess UP!!!" Och well, i call it my creative chaos!
What would we be surprised to know about you?
I'm the clumsiest person walking on this earth. If there is a door to walk into, I do that. If there is one slippery spot on the floor, I promise you I'll go slip in it. My sweet mom is always telling me I have bad luck, and that is kind of cute of her. But I know a clumsy when i see one.

Thanks for letting me be this month's spotlight. It was fun. My page is made with the Fancy pants paper from the June kit. LOVE these papers!!! The title reads - You're so old that it is growing moss on you, dad! Cause that was what my dear son told his papa after having put some old grass on him...

A TRI-FOLD BOOK

Hello There! My name is alexandra and my role at APIT is to: "Stretch That Kit". I was lucky enough to play with the Basic Grey collection this month:

Here are some of the projects I made with the Capella collection:

When I first saw that line, I thought about two things: a Baby book for my friend Jamie who's about to have her 5Th baby and a "vintage" page with older (think sepia pictures) lay-out. Here is how I made the tri-fold Baby book.

The book is made of 2 Legal file folders, trimmed down, adhered together and scored according to the format needed. The elastic is threaded as shown in the picture below.

The pages are binded to the third part of the structure with the bind-It-All.

I distressed the edges of the papers to give them more depth.

Here is the book almost finished, ready for a title...

The tag and the "B" are Quickutz dies, the other letters are rub-ons from American Crafts.

The tag is glued only on its right side:

The finished project looks like this when it's open:

This kind of books could serve many purposes and different elements could be added such as : a slot for a pen, some pockets...

July 2010 Off The Page Monthly Challenge

Hi all! I've got July's challenge for you. Sorry its a little late, I was on vacation last week and I'm getting back into the swing of things.

This month's challenge is a "recipe" challenge.

For this recipe you'll need:

3 different patterned papers

buttons

punches

some type of alphabet stickers

Here's my sample layout. I used this month's BG Green At Heart kit. I added some kraft cardstock, thickers and buttons. For my punch I used a Fiskars border punch.

Use Your Scraps July

I especially loved the kits this month so it was easy for me to use every last bit of my scraps! With the Basic Grey Green at Heart kit I created this cute teapot chipboard mini-book. This was a $1 chipboard book that had been sitting in a drawer for ages. I wasn't sure what I would do with it until we went to Disney last year and had a girls only tea at the Floridian Hotel. Perfect! I kept this pretty simple, adding only a few small scraps of coordinating papers, a few border strips, some prima flowers and a sheer ribbon on the cover and bling to embellish some of the stickers from the sticker sheet that was included with the kit. Here it is:

I also used my Max & Whiskers scraps to create some fun candy covers. My daughter and I had created similar lollipops for Valentine's Day. Only takes a minute when using scalloped punches. Add a ribbon and an embelishment or two and voila! The Hershey's Bar was super simple using only some kit scraps, bling and a ribbon.

Here are the questions and answers from Cammy about her scrapping:

Tell us a little about yourself
I’m a stay at home mom with 2 boys, Jacob-11 and Daniel-7. I’ve been married to my wonderful husband for almost 16 years. I live in Pittsburgh, PA and have lived here all my life. I started scrapping about 13 years ago. I wanted to do a heritage album with picture I have of my mother as young girl. I never did finish that album, but hope to some day. I got going when I started my oldest son’s baby album and I haven’t stopped yet. I love being a part of the APIT design team.

How would you describe your scrapping style?
I would describe my style as linear and fairly simple. I love to do photo collages on my layouts. They let me include lots of pictures and they’re easy to put together.

What scrap celebrity would you like to meet and why?
I would really like to meet Cathy Zielske and Tim Hotlz. I love Cathy’s scrapping style and Tim’s projects are just awesome!

Where do you find your inspiration?
I love to look at magazines and idea books for inspiration. Blogs are another place I like to check out too. Recently I’ve been trying to look at ads for inspiration too. The layout I did for this spotlight was partly inspired by a TV ad I saw using long thin pictures.

Describe your creative process.
My process depends on what I’m working on. Generally though I usually start with the pictures and then look for paper and embellishments that go with those photos. I usually then work out where I’m going to place the pictures and then work in the patterned paper and embellishments.

Besides scrapping, what other crafts/hobbies do you enjoy?
I enjoy reading, taking pictures and spending time with my family.

What is the craziest item you have ever added to a page?
I guess I’m not very adventurous when it comes to adding crazy things to my pages. The only things I can come up with are some hair from Jacob’s first hair cut and some pieces of yarn from his favorite blankie.

Who are your favorite manufacturers?
Too many choices, my top three are Fancy Pants, October Afternoon and Cosmo Cricket.

Describe your scrapping space.
I have my own room on the second floor of our house. Not always the most ideal spot, but at least I can close the door on the mess if I want to. Right now it is in various stages of organization, I really need to just finish it… I love having my own space because I can leave my layouts sit and then come back to them with fresh eyes.

What would we be surprised to know about you?
I’m really glad I ended up having 2 boys because I have enough trouble doing my hair every morning. I can’t imagine having to try to do someone else’s each day!

Thanks for the chance to be the Member Spotlight this month. I loved June’s kits and I chose the Pink Paislee one for my layout. I added some letter stickers from K&Company for my title and some of the filmstrip ribbon that Amy had available as an add-on for May I think.

Fathers Day Mini Book

Here's my take on one of her sketches! I chose to use a single page from the double page sketch. This layout of my family and I in Hawaii this Spring was created with the gorgeous Pink Paislee kit for June!

June Use Your Scraps

We’ve had three beautiful paper lines in the kit this month. You can see the full kit HERE. I had the pleasure working with some lovely Pink Paislee 365 degrees and made a double pager and a 12x12 layout for the DT page. (You can see all the DT work for this month HERE). Anyway, I had some scraps left and made a couple of cards and a simple layout.

I trimmed one of the journaling cards included in the kit and used it as sentiment, adhered with some foam tape. I really like how that turned out.

Next card is a clean and simple one with another journaling block.Love the blue and green color combo on that circle. The flower is stamped and cut out from tiny scraps from the kit and mounted on some 3D foam.

And finally, the layout.

It’s dear son’s first day at school three years ago. The blue and yellow colors were perfect for the photos.
